THE SHAMELESS CRIMINAL THAT IS DIEPREYE ALAMIEYESEIGHA, AN EX-CONVICT: Written by Babs Ajayi Babsajayi@yahoo Gatineau, Quebec, Canada have had to delay the publication of an article on bribery, elections and corruption in Nigeria because of the recent interview that convicted criminal and money launderer Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha granted a newspaper this weekend. In the interview, Alamieyeseigha blamed former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Nuhu Ribadu for his crimes and conviction; he did nothing wrong and he presented himself as a saint, a thieving saint of course. He said he had pardoned Obasanjo! Diepreye Alamieyeseigha pardon Obasanjo, for what? The interview is no doubt a preparation for his return to active politics, but it is a confirmation that Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and Goodluck Jonathan are co-travellers in corruption and looting. They have no shame, they do not care about what anyone may think about them, and they are out to loot and loot until they can loot no more or guns are put to their heads and they are made to pay for their crimes to Bayelsa State and the nation. New items and stories about the corrupt practices and crimes of Diepreye Alamieyeseigha are in virtually every newspaper around the world. If our people do not believe news in Nigerian newspapers how about the news and reports from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) who were there in London when Alamieyeseigha was caught by London Metropolitan Police? Some of the headlines in the BBC includes Nigerian governor arrested in UK, Nigeria governor laundered cash, Nigeria governor skips UK bail, Governor escape shames Nigeria, Nigeria arrests runaway governor, South Africa seizes governors home, Jail term for Nigeria ex-governor, UK targets Nigerias stolen loot, Nigeria ex-governor freed early, Nigeria pardons Goodluck Jonathan ally, Alamieyeseigha. These headlines from the BBC easily narrated the misdeeds and criminal life of Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, his early release from jail and state pardon by Good luck Jonathan. I have never doubted that Goodluck Jonathan is a very corrupt man and though Oronto Douglas had told the Americans that Goodluck Jonathan was part of the system of corruption that had impoverished the Niger Delta for decades, Jonathans action and inaction including giving Diepreye Alamieyeseigha an early release and a cheap, undeserved pardon, refusing to declare his asset and keeping looters and thieves in ministerial offices. The plan now is to rehabilitate an ex-convict and criminal Diepreye Alamieyeseigha. Did Obasanjo or Ribadu slipped the huge sums of money found on Alamieyeseigha by Met Police on his person? Did they also write the stories for the BBC? Did they loot Bayelsa State treasury? The looting of billions from the treasury of Bayelsa State was the doing of Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and Goodluck Jonathan. The British Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria confirmed the arrest of Diepreye Alamieyeseigha at Heathrow Airport on Thursday, September 15, 2005. It was the Metropolitan Police who notified the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of Alamieyeseighas arrest for money laundering and provided the EFCC with the details. Alamieyeseigha was released on bail for a period of two months, but he jumped bail and escaped back to Nigeria claiming that the Lord helped him to escape justice! The BBC then reported the charge and appearance in court of then governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha on Wednesday, September 2005. He was charged with laundering £1.8 million found in cash and in bank accounts. The magistrate who heard his case denied him bail because, according to the BBC he might leave the UK, as another governor did last year. That governor was Mr. Joshua Dariye, then governor of Plateau State, and he is still a wanted man in the UK. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is also a wanted man in the UK and cannot enter the European Union. In fact, Oronto Douglas was the Information Commissioner when Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was governor. Mr Douglas told the press, we woke up this morning and he was here… He said God brought him here! Theirs was a cabal of looters and thieves who have continued to rape and loot Bayelsa State. The BBC had wondered in a December 1, 2005 report if anyone should be above the law, Legal immunity protects people in office so that they can do their jobs, but what happens when they commit a crime and cannot be prosecuted? The online website of the BBC added: Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, governor of Bayelsa State in Nigeria, is charged with money laundering $3.2 million in the UK. Last week he jumped bail to return to Nigeria, where he has immunity. He claims he is innocent, but ran away to escape trial. His arrest and prosecution was just and proper, and his imprisonment and confiscation of some of his stolen properties appropriate. He was impeached by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and this took away his immunity. For years he hid under state immunity to loot and steal state funds. And guess who Alamieyeseighas successor was? It was Goodluck Jonathan, then his apprentice. Now the apprentice and protégé wants to rehabilitate his godfather! The shame of all shames on both of them. These are men who have no conscience, no morals, no mores, and who move around with stones in place of hearts; very mean and calculating looters. The godfather is now an ex-convict while his apprentice will soon meet his waterloo. Alamieyeseigha spoke about G2G, Goodluck to Goodluck Project of which he is the chairman. The project cannot be anything more than greed-to-greed and graft-to-graft. But the project will fail woefully and his protégé will be defeated and finally shamed and kicked out of office by the electorate in a free and fair election. Jonathan is gradually bringing corrupt and impeached former governors back into high political offices. Ayo Fayose, who was impeached as governor of Ekiti State in 2006 because of several corrupt practices and diverting of state funds that ran into billions of Naira, is back. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was found guilty of money laundering and sentenced to two years in prison by a Lagos High Court in July 2007, but today he is trying to rewrite history. He wants you and I to believe that he was a victim of an orchestrated plot. Alamieyeseigha, you are an unrepentant thief, treasury looter, a money launderer and an ex-convict. You will definitely join James Ibori in jail if you ever set foot on US or UK soil, and you will never be more than a thief and a shameless man unless you come to terms with your crimes and seek genuine repentance and forgiveness from the people of Bayelsa State and from God. visit@nigeriaworld/feature/publication/babsajayi/071214.html
