THE SHOUT OF A DROWNING MAN... I found it laughable and distasteful when I saw this reportage; I will expose my predecessors’ failings –Jonathan Jonathan promised to expose the failings of his predecessors including Buhari, which stunted the country’s growth and development. Former Military President, Ibrahim Babangida had described his government as saintly compared to successive administrations in terms of prevalence of corruption, just as former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday, took a swipe at President Jonathan, accusing him among other things of squandering $55 billion crude oil savings left behind by his Administration. President Jonathan, who noted that his administration has performed more than the previous ones with the nation’s economy as the largest in Africa, said: “When we start campaigns, we will confront them with what we have done as a government, we will tell them what they did not do when they were heads of state. Some people want to still keep these children as shoe cleaners, we must lift them up. Our children should not be used as cannon folders. They should be allowed to move forward to be governors like us. Let President Goodluck Jonathan be told that with few billion dollars, my Principal while he was the Military President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ruling Council of Nigeria(AFRC) achieved all these... 1. Deregulation of the Broadcasting sector in 1992 2. Deregulation of the Banking Sector. 3. National Economic Reconstruction Fund(NERFUND) in 1989 with initial capital of N300m($39.4m) 4. Nigeria Export-Import Bank(NEXIM) with paid up capital of N1.367 billion in 1990. 5. The Peoples Bank in 1989 with initial take-off grant of N330 million 6. Community Banks. The government formulated in 1990 a policy which with the take off grant of N0.25 million, a Community Bank can be established. 7. The Capital Market. 8. The creation of the National Orientation Agency 9. Mass Mobilization for Self Reliance and Economic Recovery. 10. National Directorate of Employment, which is still operating as we speak, and a new policy was formed out of it, NEEDS.. 11. Directorate of Food, Roads, and Rural Infrastructure(DIFFRI) 12. Establishment of the Federal Road Safety Commission. 13. The construction of Third Mainland Bridge, to create the longest bridge in Africa & a vital linkage between Lagos Island & Mainland. 15. The building of Oko-Iboku Newsprint manufacturing company to ensure cheap & available materials needed for the newspaper & allied publication industry 16. The building of Aluminum Smelter Company at Ikot Abasi. 17. National Fertilizer Company of Nigeria(NAFCON), Onne. 18. The construction of Alesa-Eleme Phase II refinery facility with a capacity of 150, 000bpd in 1989 & the integration of its operation with Phase I in 1993m 19. The increase in capacity of Kaduna refinery from 50,000bpd to 60,000bdp(an addition of 10,000bpd). 20. IBB led government increased Nigerias refining capacity by over 75%. 21. The construction of LAB plant at Kaduna refinery in 1987. The plant can manufacture 30, 000mt/yr of LAB, 15,000mt/yr of Benzene & 30,000mt/yr of Kero solvent. 22. There was adequate availability of Petroleum products and as a result there was never an issue of fuel scarcity. 23. The maximum cost of Petrol under his administration was 70kobo/Lt. 24. The Liquefied Natural Gas. 25. The completion of Jebba & Shiroro Dam. 26. The retrofitting of Kanji Dam to increase its electricity generating capacity. 27. The completion of Challawa George dam. 28. The completion & commissioning of Egbin Thermal plant, 29. His administration succeeded in getting the International Telecommunications Union(ITU) to reserve geostationary orbit for African countries and paid for it. 30. Also obtained the reservation of council seats for Africa. 31. He digitalized all telephone exchange. 32. He installed three digital modern gateways covering the three zones of the country North(Lanlate), East(Enugu), & West(Lagos). 33. Creation of the Foreign Aid Corps. 34. He created OMPADEC. 35. He increased the Derivation formula from 3% to 8%..... And lastly... 36. He had the political will to move the seat of power from Lagos to Abuja. So is this an example of how the past leaders stagnated the growth of the country? Will he be releasing this as well? Must this guy talk? Why cant he just keep quiet as a bid to achieve damage containment? Is he unaware that each time he opens his mouth, he spew out rubbish, and hes irritable to anyone of average intelligence? Let President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan be told that no matter what he puts forward, no matter the dirt and damning evidence he thinks he will brandish, these men would be seen as petty thieves involved in mere stealing and not corruption. The shout of a drowning man is never heard.. The shout of a drowning man is never loud... The shout of a drowning man plunge him deeper in the water.. For every attempt to shout, he gulps more water...he becomes heavier and weak..he sinks deeper... This is what will happen to GEJ...... This is what happens to every drowning man... This attempt to talk tough and issuing of threats to ex- leaders critical of his ineptitude, misrule, lack of vision, and utter cluelessness on every issue is a nothing but the shout of a drowning man. God Bless Nigeria
