THE SHOWDOWN!!! Mark 12 1-12 Jesus begins telling a parable to the Sanhedrin ( the highest Jewish tribunal during the Greek and Roman period) which were already plotting against him. To me its like western movie with the two gunfighters in the street. Not really but you get the idea. So Jesus begins. A landlord planted a vineyard--Gods relationship with Israel. He then built a wall for protection, a pit for a wine press, and a watchtower for shelter, storage, and security. He then leased it out to tenant farmers---Israels religious leaders The way to pay rent was to go and get some of the crop that was produced instead of money. The Landlord (God) would send servants (prophets) to gather his part of the harvest and they would beat and kill them. Then the Landlord had only his son left (Jesus), surely they respect his only heir. But when the son came they killed him also. The Sanhedrin are now getting that this is against them and that Jesus is saying that he is the Son of God, and the showdown has begun. In this standoff Jesus then states that the builders had rejected the capstone which was the most important stone in the building of that day. They left Jesus alone because of the crowd around him and Jesus departed.
