THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DAY OF ATONEMENT (2) Monday, 12 Tishrie, 5775 = Monday, October 06, 2014 “Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD” (Leviticus 23:27). Every strategic gate of time must be consecrated or dedicated to the Lord. In Leviticus 25:9, we are commanded to “…Consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitant. It shall be a Jubilee for you: and each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family.” A strategic day you don’t consecrate may never yield to you all its prophetic benefits. Consequently, to possess the gates of the Day of Atonement, we must first consecrate this day in order to attain maximum benefits. The Day of Atonement is: 1. A TIME WHEN THOSE WHO REFUSE TO AFFLICT THEIR SOULS COULD BE CUT OFF: “For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people” (Leviticus 23:29). 2. A TIME WHEN THOSE WHO VIOLATE THE NO-WORK RULE COULD BE DESTROYED: “And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people” (Leviticus 23:30). 3. A TIME THAT CARRIES SABBATICAL GRACE: “Ye shall do no manner of work: It shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. It shall be unto you a Sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your Sabbath” (Leviticus 23:31-32). 4. A TIME WHICH MUST BE CELEBRATED YEARLY: “And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses” (Leviticus 16:34). KEY PRAYER FOCUS 1. PRAY THAT THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS WILL PROMOTE TRUE RELIGION: “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world…Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widows heart to sing for joy. I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem. I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out” (James 1:27; Job 29:12-16). 2. PRAY THAT BELIEVERS WILL DROP SIN, TAKE UP THEIR CROSSES TO FOLLOW CHRIST: “And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me” (Matthew 10:38).
