*****THE SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY***** What makes a political party in Nigeria isnt the name or acronym its known by but its membership. The high and low, the rich and poor, the notables, the youths, the artisans and tradesmen that team up the membership of the party. That a party is named PDP doesnt make its Panti Dara Po contents more concentrated than the other parties. Within the gamut of human reasonings, Naija politicians are in politics to win or to gamble on mother luck, and not just to participate. And definitely not a show of I can set 2billion naira on fire without winking. In Nigeria political arena where there is no clear cut ideologies, generational-change is just another catch phrase of the young elites. Whether to serve the people or to loot the common treasury, Conservatives or Progressives, free and fair contest or jagba, politicians prime focus is to win: sometimes at all cost. Losing in a contest that was not free and fair, in a contest where the Guidelines are altered midway to suit another contestant could be frustrating. Political frustration has led many with good service intent to opt out of politics completely. Some weaklings do remain within to seek crumbs from the tables of the oga at the top. While the strong hearted defected elsewhere to seek a new dawn or to damn the demagogue. In the last category mentioned above, permit me to mention few names like Malam Aminu Kano, Ibrahim Waziri. And very recently in Oyo state we have Kazeem Adedeji, Lowo Obisesan, Sharafa Alli, Femi Lanlehin, Ayo Adeseun, Adebayo Alao-Akala, Seyi Makinde, to mention just a few. Creating a new political platform might be gratifying but not satisfying. E.g. PRP & GNPP of Aminu Kano & Waziri Ibrahim respectively. In joining another party, wisdom dictates that the existing structures of the party and the circumstances on ground should be properly weighed. Sometimes late 2010, Sen Ladoja defected from the PDP to the Accord Party, a party with no visible and viable structure in Oyo state. Yes, the outing was self gratifying: but was that the mission. Is the AP, Oyo state, today not better situated than it was in 2010. Ditto the Labour Party, Oyo state, is better structured. And with the defection by the Destiny Group of Alao-Akala into the LP, the party is now stronger with better outreach. Its no more news that the Omi Titun Group has finally settled down in the Social Democratic Party. And that our amiable indefatigable Engineer Seyi Makinde is the de-facto gomina. Admittedly, the Accord of 2010 was as fresh as the SDP of 2014. But has Seyi Makinde of 2014 the political clout of 2010 Ladoja? Unless the SDP, Social Democratic Party means SEYI DEVELOPMENTAL PROJEÇT, nothing changes in Oyo political horizon.
