THE SOLDER ANTS The philosopher Socrates once said, an unexamined life is not worth living. I never accepted this, until an ugly incident that happened on a sunday morning. My mother sent me to the farm to dig up the tubers of yam that we were going to pound for dinner, I rushed to the farm like a rocket going to another planet at a very high speed. Smiling and looking up for a ripe mango that I would chew before settling down to dig the ground for yam. As I climbed the mango tree, I did not look around to check if anything will disturb me from climbing the tree. All of a sudden, my body began to itch all over,I started scratching, this I did for some seconds till i could not control myself again for the pain was unbearable, I did not know when i left the branch of the tree I was holding tight not to fall off the tree.. In the twinkle of an eye, I found myself on the ground, it was as if I was day-dreaming, because everything happened so fast. I cried for help but nobody was around to hear me call. I managed to pull myself up but i could not because my leg was broken. This was where I was for some minutes until i noticed something like the bite of a 3 year old child on every part of my body...oh noo!, I had been sleeping in the middle of soldier ants, what a bad day for me, I said to myself, I felt pain on my scrotum, I screamed and I used all of the strength I had to crawl out from under the tree. Crying like a day old baby that just arrived from another world...If it werent for an old woman who saw me when she was returning from her farm, the soldier ants would have redesigned my manhood in a mysterious way. She dragged me out of the bush and removed my clothing, My private area that I had always guarded jealously from the girls even at the river was turned into a play thing for the old woman as she was helped me remove the ants from under my penis and from there through my back..she left me there in pain and dashed into the bush then came back a few gruelling minutes later with some strange looking leaves in her hands. She rubbed them between her hands for the greenish juice to come out of the leaves, she squeezed a few drops onto my manhood. I cried and tears rolled down my cheeks. When I was finally relieved after some minutes, she held my hand and followed me home. My dear friend, now I wholly believe socrates words to always examine things before doing it, and i will never disobey him again..thanks ©Olusegun Lawal
