THE STRANDING OF A FALSE KILLER WHALE CALF ON THE WEST COAST OF VANCOUVER ISLAND IN BRITISH COLUMBIA - CANADA An extremely young cetacean stranded yesterday AM - the 10th of July - near Tofino Beach. Even though the Vancouver Marine Mammal Rescue Center and some other groups responded in unison, the rescue proved to be quite challenging. The distressed one-metre calf appeared to be in poor shape. Nonetheless, the cetacean was taken to the Vancouver Aquarium for a thorough assessment, as well as treatment and rehabilitation. The following article has all the details of the rescue: westerlynews.ca/local-news/multi-agency-rescue-effort-as-baby-false-killer-whale-beaches-near-tofino-1.1201780 You will find in the comment box a couple photos taken of the dark grey whale by Tofino Mayor Josie Osborne’s associates. I will keep an eye out for updates and will post right away the ones that are available. I would very much hope the little one will be able to pull through during this most critical time! LAURICE
