THE THAL PUBLIC SCHOOL – BRIEF HISTORY District Khushab in general and Thal desert in particular are considered to be underdeveloped for the reason that the area is economically backward with extremely poor facilities for human development. Chak No. 22 MB lies 40 kilometers to the south west of Khushab city inside the Thal desert. No secondary or high school for boys or girls exists within the radius of 15 kilometers around the village. The government primary schools available in the area are in extremely dilapidated condition. The physical hardships and poor conditions of educational infrastructure in the area force majority of boys and girls to discontinue their education after primary level. The situation is much worse in case of girls. The dropout problem results from non availability of public transport, poor educational standards in government schools, economic hardships faced by parents in meeting the expenses at private schools, apathy of government functionaries and a general awareness about the benefits of quality education. Resultantly a small number of students from these villages manage to enter class VI, leaving the vast majority condemned to under educated lives. Sattar Sharifan Trust Sattar Sharifan Trust was established in 2006 for promoting the social services in the above referred area. The Trust has since been registered with District Government Khushab. It was under the rubric of the trust that the plight of children of area has been addressed through a novel approach of philanthropy-driven quality education. The Trust has established a state of the art school for boys and girls to provide quality education to deserving and capable students of the area. Thal Public School Under the auspices of Sattar Sharifan Trust, fifteen acres of land was exhorted for the school in Chak No. 22 MB. The foundation stone was laid by Mrs Sharifan Bibi, mother of Mr Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, the Founder of the school on August 2, 2006. A junior Wing Block covering an area of 12000 square feet was completed in July 2007 and the school started functioning in August 2007 admitting the students in Nursery, Prep, and class I. On pressing demand of the parents the school administration accepted the challenge of starting English foundation course for the students who had passed their class V exam in Urdu as medium of instruction. So simultaneously with English as a medium of instruction, Class VI was also on Board. With increasing pressure of admission the Board of Governors had to accept the challenge of constructing more class rooms, hence two more double storey academic blocks for middle wing and senior wing were constructed by Feb 2008. The same were inaugurated by the Chief Secretary Punjab Mr Javed Mehmood on February 22, 2009. The school was upgraded to college in August 2012.
