THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING: The performances by Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones are so extraordinary, I wish the whole movie were as good as they are. I liked the fact the the movie wasnt so much his story but hers - so many movies about the disabled are all about the noble and brave struggle of the saintly afflicted protagonist. Thats here to some degree, but its balanced nicely by the fact the movie is really told from Jane Hawkings perspective - indeed, the screenplay is based on one of her books (the more flattering one.) Its fascinating to see the story from the perspective of the long-suffering caregiver. That becomes a liability later, when the movie tiptoes around the fact their marriage did not end happily, which makes the last act ring not as true as the first two-thirds of the film. Still a very worthwhile effort, though the best sense of Hawking is gleaned by reading A Brief History of Time. GRADE: B+
