THE TINKLING OF A PIANO IN THE NEXT APARTMENT Thursday, October 30th, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm J. Scott Beaty Presents An Evening of Piano Music Pianist J. Scott Beaty began studying piano at the age of three, taught by his mother, also a pianist. He began singing and made his professional debut at the Eastman Theatre at the University of Rochesters Eastman School of Music in Lee Hoibys opera Summer and Smoke. After he graduated from St. Edwards University in Texas, with a B.A in Arena Theatre Performance and Music, he resumed his career as an actor and solo pianist. In 1988, the Ritz-Carlton Corporation recruited Mr. Beaty to Palm Springs to perform at their Mountain Resort in Rancho Mirage. After six years there, he left at the encouragement of the late President Ford and Mrs. Betty Ford to perform for all special events at the McCallum Theatre and Center for the Performing Arts McCallum Theatre, where he has been a pianist for 19 years. Living in Palm Springs, Mr. Beaty was selected to perform solo for operatic tenor Placido Domingo and the Los Angeles Opera twice in the same day. Mr Domingo encouraged him to accept a scholarship to Boston for Operatic Performance Musical Therapy and piano at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he graduated with honors in 2008, earning his Masters Degree under the direction of Ms. Donna Roll. The evenings selection of music will include pieces composed by George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichae, and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, as well as many others. This program is free to the public, but seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
