THE WATCHMAN The labels prophet and visionary are highly subjective; a person considered an authentic prophet by some will be considered a false prophet by others or at least abnormal by modern scholars. However, in a society that is out of control, which creates movies such as Skyline and games such as Dungeons and Dragons, you should not find these writings unusual. A prophet as an individual does not fit into society; he ridicules its assumptions, its self-righteousness, and its lack of moral direction. He rants at the world as if it were a slum. But if such sensitivity to evil is hilarious, what should we think of the assumptions, complacency, and the worlds lack of ethical bearing that the prophet bewails? The prophet is intent on intensifying responsibility, is intolerant of excuse, and is disdainful of pretense and self-piety. His tone and mannerisms are frequently disturbing, even horrid. His mannerisms and tone are designed to shock rather than to calm and console. The prophet challenges the holy, revered, and cherished beliefs of the institutions and the community. The prophet knows and understands that religion distorts God, and that the clergy has committed perjury in its toleration of moral ambiguity. The prophet hates the middle of the road. The prophet is a black and white thinker, one-sided, strange, and an unbearable extremist to family and friends. A prophet faces intolerant authorities in established religion. The things that horrified the prophets of old are now daily occurrences, so how can the prophet remain quiet? Howbeit, there are many pretenders who predict peace, prosperity, and a God who will give America another chance if America will but repent. America will be given no second chance. I find this admonition distasteful and a burden, one which stigmatizes and conjures the thought that I might be a madman. But speak I must, warn I will. They hate him who reproves in the gate; they abhor him who speaks the truth (Amos 5:10). A prophet more than anything else is a watchman. A watchman must be alert and wary. Today many have failed their duty to warn of impending destruction and imminent danger as the Tribulation draws near. They are asleep at their post, unable to see the approaching holocaust. The self-proclaimed watchman of today are bought off with the luxuries of life. They want to see a better tomorrow for themselves and their children. A vigilant watchman warns of imminent danger. His duty is to warn of impending ruin. Ezekiel 33:1-7, Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them: When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their watchman, when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be on himself. But he who takes warning will save his life. But if the watchman sees the sword coming, and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchmans hand. So, you son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me. When the Lord spoke to Ezekiel, he understood the duty of the watchman. He as well as people of that time knew the consequence of a faithful guard, because watchman were always in the watchtowers of the citadels. They were ever on guard, scanning the horizon for an approaching enemy. The townspeople could sleep at night knowing that a watchman was on the wall, and if attacked the watchman would warn them and awake them. A faithful watchman knows that the enemys attack can come at any moment and is therefore vigilant. This utter darkness has been developing since the beginning of time, and has been foretold in prophecy. A darkness so deep, its inconceivable. This second Dark Age is coming upon us as we sleep. We are marrying and partying like no other generation. The roaring twenties has even taken a back seat to the gayness of this generation. We have taken our pleasures as slaughters, war crimes, and country has risen against country; we have just turned the music up a little louder and pacified ourselves with the thought that tomorrow would somehow be better. However, we are all like men drowning in quicksand. We put our heads in a hole, and cover our eyes, hoping it will all go away. Tomorrow will arrive as a bright sun-shining day.
