THE WAY FORWARD By Abdoulie Jatta I really enjoyed your analysis on Monday 17 February 2014. Gambian soldiers might be cowards but, it is not easy to take on the enemy if you do not have a clear knowledge about him. The 1994 coup was timely and unanimous. When the time comes for Jammeh to be unseated he will surely leave. Gambians are good at talking but they do not have clear knowledge about the enemy. Muamarr Gaddafi suppressed and killed more people than Jammeh has done but, when it was time to kick him out it was very easy. We are all to blame about the current situation in the Gambia. The soldiers tried to unseat Yahya Jammeh several times but, we failed. Gambians are more brave than any other country in this universe. The Gambian issue has to be handled with utmost care and responsibility. The soldiers are members of the society and they undergo the same or more than what the civilians experience under Jammehs dictatorship. Gaddafi stayed in power longer than Jammeh has been. Ben Ali and Mubarak were also more of dictators than Yahya Jammeh. The soldiers did not overthrow the Government but, instead the civilians went into the streets and thereafter the security personnel gave them backup. If Gambians are really bored with Yahya Jammeh, they will rise up like the Senegalese did when Abdoulaye Wade wanted to clinch unto power. We learnt at school that THE PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD. We have to prevent a tribal conflict in the Gambia. The security personnel in the Gambia will never kill innocent civilians. In any struggle there must be sacrifices but, it wont continue. The April 10 student demonstration could have thrown the country into total agony had the students continued with the strikes. The Senegalese government can never interfere in Gambian politics like that. Both the international world and Senegalese people do not have clear proves about the atrocities committed by the regime back home. They learnt about the Dictators cruelty after he executed the nine detainees but still some of his sympathizers tried to justify the act. You might have the right to execute people by law but, the corpses should have been handed over to their relatives for proper burial. All that we need is to enlighten both Gambians at home, abroad and the international community about the happenings in the Gambia. We need to strengthen radios like Freedom, Hallogambia, Kibaaro news etc to help spread the message. The Sene-gambian region is a very complex and fragile region. There are professional and durable solutions to the oppression in the Gambia. Fatou Camara is a very heavy and destructive weapon against the regime back home and hopefully Gambians will learn to respect her. Some of us who are very conversant with the State House and the entire government can confirm what Fatou Camara discloses on Freedom radio. The ex soldiers in the USA should provide maximum security to you and Pa Nderry. So therefore, Fatou you are a very strong lady and we love you for your courage and willingness to prompt changes in the Gambia democratically. Haruna Jammeh and Massy Jammeh were hanged by the Black boys. Beating is the lightest form of torture employed by the NIA and black boys. Most of the soldiers in the Army do not even know what takes place at the NIA and mile 2. The execution of the nine detainees was towards ex General Lang tombong Tamba but, Jammeh is skeptical about the reaction from the public. Gambians did not cry yet but, once the right people speak out, most people will either quit the country or go on self exile. Bai lowe did not say it all because Jammeh is more than what most people think. Pa Modou Ann has always been a very respectable personality to Gambians especially the Armed Forces. He is a perfect gentlemen and trustworthy. He left the Army when some of were Cadet Officers. He used to be a role model for young officers in the Army. There are very simple ways to dislodge Jammeh and his government but, I surely get in touch with the NRMG executive. Arabic and the Quran are too different things. Arab themselves read and memorized the Quranic alphabet and words. Jammeh is a hypocrite and thus wish to confuse the local people with Islam and Arabic. In most Arab speaking countries there are multi regions and they are living in harmony. He is looking for financial support and international support as he is too unpopular in the west. We should thank God that we are speaking English. English language has become so popular that even the French speaking countries in Africa have embrace it. Arabs are endeavoring to speak English because of its important in international transactions. Long live the Gambia our homeland.
