THE ZANESVILLE BLUE DEVILS I want to share something on my mind. I am from Zanesville. I am a Zanesville High School grad. I played all sports and even marched in the band. Being from Zanesville came with a sense of pride. Being a part of a team that included Ohios 1st Mr. Football gave us pride. Being a part of a family that produced multiple Division 1 athletes and even a professional football player, brings a sense of pride. Being from a school that produced the finest scholars and musicians, taught by the states finest educators, brings a sense of pride. In the years after graduating, ZHS and the city of Zanesville went through many changes that caused me (and others) to question the pride we felt from being part of such a legacy. The standard changed. The tradition no longer mattered. Crime took over the city. The “TEAM/me” concept was a foreign philosophy that became lost among the filth that became my hometown. Tonight will mark a change back to what was. Tonight marks a changing of direction. The success of this team represents so much more than just being in the State Final 4. The tradition has been resurrected. Not just because we are winning, but because we have our city back, united, together. I know its a football game, but to those of us who grew up in this thing, it is so much more than that. It is proof that the things that we believe in and hold dear to are not dead. Pride, hard work, dedication, living for your fellow man, sacrificing for your team, these are all characteristics that summarize what being a Zanesville Blue Devil is, and is supposed to be. We respect all, but we fear none. That is what being from this city is about. I am proud that these young men represent our city and its legacy. To a Coach Chad Grandstaff and all of the coaches, most of whom I played with and was coached by, we love ya! #allin
