This is Fergus...he is the sweetest boy in the world, especially considering how he came to us. He is estimated to be 1-2 years old. We’re unsure of his breed. He’s some type of terrier mix. He’s 15 lbs. He was tossed out on the street by his owners. He had severe demodex mange which is doing better but he is still undergoing treatment. It was so bad that he had chewed a chunk out of his leg! He was so critical we almost considered euthanasia as the most humane option. He was just a lump when he came to us. His skin was open and bleeding. Can you imagine feeling so much pain that you think it’s a good option to chew your skin off? The mange is not contagious. We will cover all meds while he continues treatment. He was extremely abused and thus is very scared still with humans and will not let you touch him in certain ways. Certain movements scare him also. He just tries to wiggle away. He’s shown no aggression at all. His foster mom said the first day she had him he warmed up & slept with her the first night but was still very scared & skiddish. She said this is definitely the most scared, abused dog she has fostered but he wants to be loved. Now that she has had him awhile, his foster mom says he is very comfortable with her and loves to cuddle up and will give kisses but he still does not like to be picked up or touched in certain ways. But again just tries to get away and has shown no aggression at all. He loves to sleep in the bed & loves to play with toys or other dogs. He is very playful & is very sweet! He loves to be given love such as belly rubs. He is dog & cat friendly & heartworm negative. He’s had multiple vet visits. He had a negative fecal. He’s up to date on shots, heartworm prevention and flea prevention. Fergus would prefer another young dog to play with as that’s his favorite activity. Hed also be great with a child. If we looked at him in the beginning he would just roll over and flinch waiting to be hit. You could tell the only time he ever felt human touch was to be beaten. Fergus is located in New Orleans, but we will adopt to anywhere in the US. To donate or adopt, please contact animalhelperneworleans@gmail
