THE coolest thing just happened to me!! Talk about a small world. I was in Walmart getting a gallon of dill pickles to make bread & butter pickles. The jar was huge so a nice gentleman pick them off the lower shelf and put them in my basket. His wife said, Oh my, your family must love dill pickles. Well, they do, I answered, but these are for my Grandmother Alfords bread & butter pickles recipe and you start with dill pickles. The woman looked startled for a moment, then said, Your Grandmother didnt happen to live in Arkansas, did she? Why yes she did. She and my Grandfather lived in Gum Springs, Ark. They smiled at each other, then the man asked, Was your grandfather Henry Alford? Yes. I answered. They said that my Granddaddy Alford married them at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Gum Springs in 1957. They had little money, so Grandmother Alford fixed them a nice meal after the ceremony (including the aforementioned bread & butter pickles). It is a small world!!!!
