THERE ARE SOME THINGS MONEY CANNOT BUY, AND SCIENCE CANNOT MEASURE... The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God…. Psalm 14: 1 On 2/4/14, in Petersburg, KY, a debate regarding the always controversial Creation vs. Evolution topic was held. Speaking on behalf of Creation was Ken Ham, “Answers in Genesis” CEO. Speaking on behalf of evolution was Bill Nye – “The Science Guy”. The debate went pretty much as I figured it would go, with neither man yielding in his point of view, nor changing the other’s mind. I thought Ken Ham did a great job of sticking to the biblical world view and presenting his case in an orderly manner. The point of this article is not to rehash the debate (it can be viewed on You Tube), but to bring something to the table that was not discussed in detail – invisible evidence. Now I realize that goes against the grain, since science is built on matter that can be seen, measured, weighed, and scrutinized under a microscope. So just hold on a minute, and I will get to my point. I thought the most interesting part of the evening was when Mr. Nye was asked if he could explain how the atoms that created “the big bang” got there in the first place. He admitted that he did not have the answer as to how the atoms got there, and then tried to put a positive spin on it by saying that the beauty of science is waking up every morning and trying to make new discoveries and figure out mysteries. Mr. Nye is without a doubt a very intelligent man, but through all of his wisdom, he could not provide an answer to that question. I immediately thought of the scriptures which tell us that God has chosen the simple things to confound the wise, and how people can spend their entire lives learning, yet never grasping the truth: 1 Corinthians 2: 13, 14 Which things also we speak, not in the words which mans wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 1: 26 – 28 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 2 Timothy 3: 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Another interesting point of the night was when Mr. Nye was asked where man received his conscience from. (You know, that inner feeling or voice that acts as a guide to our behavior and our concept of right and wrong) Again, he had to admit, he had no answer. One of Mr. Nye’s biggest points of the evening was that he could not believe that Noah could have built an ark big enough to withstand a flood as the Bible claims. He did not believe that Noah would have had the intelligence or the man power to build such a huge boat. It therefore goes without saying that Mr. Nye would not believe that one man could feed five thousand with just five loaves and two fish, or calm a tremendous storm with three simple words, “Peace, be still.” As he spoke, I realized that the main difference between an Atheist and a Christian is not faith. An Atheist must possess great faith that the theory of evolution is correct, for it is based on an assumption which no one personally witnessed. Everyone has some measure of faith, but while the Christian has faith in God and His written Word, the Atheist must place his faith in man and his written theories. As Christians, we have a huge advantage; because we not only have faith in the Word of God, but we have some immeasurable, invisible securities and experiences that the Atheist simply cannot comprehend or explain. I’m speaking of the things that you cannot run lab tests on, peel back layers and attempt to date, or simply analyze with the finite mind. As a born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, this is the invisible evidence that may not be admissible in the courts of men, but will allow you access to the throne of God: 1. Faith (The invisible evidence) Hebrews 11: 1 – 3 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. 2. Peace (Beyond human understanding) Philippians 4: 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 3. Joy (Unspeakable) 1 Peter 1: 8, 9 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. 4. Hope (In our future) 1 Corinthians 15: 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 5. Assurance (Of eternal life) 1 Peter 5: 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 6. Love (Never fails) 1 Corinthians 13: 13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. During periods of crisis, I’ve never known of a Christian to turn to an Atheist for the miraculous, but I have heard of Atheists asking their Christian friends for prayer and hope. You have something very special that Atheism cannot offer and science cannot explain. I am not attempting to discredit Science, but I do feel that many Scientists are attempting to discredit Faith. I thank God for all of the men and women of great intellect who have made tremendous discoveries, solved many mysteries, and found many remedies for our sicknesses. But I still contend that the greatest knowledge imparted to man is that of spiritual discernment, the greatest mysteries revealed are contained in the pages of the Bible, and the greatest remedy ever given is our faith in God above. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1: 18 - 25 @Back on Track Bible Studies - Rick Flores Follow on Twitter @RickFloresRG1
