THINK CAREER NOT COMPANY: FOREWORD By Rev. Fr. Barrister Anthony Ezeoke, my Spiritual director and mentor The child is the father of the man. Everyone is sure that when a child is born the expectations of the parents are so high. When the child grows in the midst of love, care and guidance of the parents, nothing is spared and no sacrifice is considered too much. In so far as the child continues to grow and develop the joy of such parents’ increases. When the child shows signs of wisdom, or even any positive signs of greatness, such parents become proud and wherever one finds them make reference to their child who becomes a pride to them. Such is my joy at the prodigy that Nelson Nwamara is maturing to become. When I pastured St Augustine’s Catholic Chaplaincy Federal Polytechnic Oko, in one of the years, I noticed a young man who always sat at a particular corner of the church and who always scribbled something during homilies. Somehow because of the consistence with which he sat there at Masses, I began to develop interest in him and would ask of him any time he failed to be there for some dialogue. No one could miss such a student who with rapt attention and unflagging zeal sat almost at the same spot each time. It was then that I noticed the gold hidden in the ore grappling with obvious desperation to be smelted and purified. I saw his struggles and determination and cautioned him over one or two issues. My joy therefore knew no bounds when he presented me with this his motivational book of encouragement to read and write the foreword. In my opinion, his effort is quite amazing for his age and for me, it is a well-researched work for all especially for those who are almost at their wits’ end at the obvious but true fact of the massive unemployment of our nation today. This book Think Career Not Company is indeed a good antidote for all who have searched and searched for work in this corrupt infested society: a society where semi-illiterates in various forms of uniforms plundered the nation for many years and set the code of conduct of brazen faced banditry and rascality; a society that has lost the sense of shame and common sense. This is a society where we all longed for civilian leadership, and yet we are continuously being shown the level of decay, moral depravity and apparent heartlessness in the midst of human suffering. Yes, a society, leaders dance naked in the full view of the citizenry, where idiocy and mediocrity have long been enthroned sacrificing merit and high quality performance on the altar of tribe of origin, federal character and such like senseless criteria that on the surface portrays ploys or never-do-wells to plunder and destroy quality performance, good governance and success. This book is therefore a tonic for young people, and especially for students of all cadres who are planning to seek for non-existing jobs to rather think of creating them instead. ‘What you like best, try to turn it into gold. If you love writing, write. What you like best and you have passion for, areas you think you have great flairs for, try your hand at developing them and you will surely break even and through. Make mistakes and ride –on. Never allow your initial failures to dampen your spirit but keep on moving. Never give up, if you fall down, get up and move on. Let no one denigrate, disparage or discourage you. Your friends can be your undoing. Pursue your dream and try to translate those dreams into action and see that you will in the end become a success story.’ I cannot add more except to say I endorse his propositions and suggestions after all an unexamined life is not worth living. Nelson Nwamara, thank you for this inspiring attempt which is a wake-up call for all. My prayer is that many people get this book and actualize the propositions. It is further my prayer that the Almighty God would blossom your desire and make you grow from strength to strength and above all give you opportunities of speaking to young people who could catch the flame from you by hearing you life. This is very important because ours has become a society where the reading culture following years of bad leadership and foolery has almost come to unit percentage and become the glory of years gone by. This book is however a must-read for all. I sincerely recommend it. Rev.Fr. Barrister Anthony Ezeoke, Spiritual Director, Blessed Pope John Paul II Major Seminary, Okpuno, Awka South LGA, Anambra State Nigeria.
