THIS DAY IN ARKANSAS WEATHER HISTORY... 1879-A tornado struck Fort Smith. 1897-Severe thunderstorms produced hail and widespread wind damage at Little Rock. A severe hailstorm caused significant agricultural damage at Elon. 1931-Most highs in the state were 100 or higher from this date through July 4th. 1957-The remnants of Hurricane Audrey produced strong winds and heavy rain in the south. 1986-The remnants of Tropical Storm Bonnie moved into eastern Texas and dropped five to eight inches of rain in most of the south, with lesser amounts in central and western portions. El Dorado picked up 11 inches of rain from the system. 2013-High temperatures were near or above 100 degrees in portions of northern and central Arkansas. The hot temperatures and high humidity sent heat index values from 110-115 degrees in portions of the state. Isolated severe thunderstorms produced large hail at Cave City and near Newark, and downed trees and power lines at Newport and Tuckerman.
