THIS DAY IN ARKANSAS WEATHER HISTORY... Apr. 12 1846-Heavy frost was seen at Little Rock. 1858-A tornado hit Springfield in Conway County. Part of the town was destroyed, but nobody was killed. 1881-A tornado touched down in Monroe and Lee Counties. 1911-A tornado touched down at Mountainburg with two fatalities. 1927-A tornado hit Fort Smith, killing two. 1945-Tornadoes touch down from Sebastian to Madison Counties, killing 25. This was part of a major outbreak from Oklahoma into Missouri. 1957-Three to four inches of snow fell in the extreme north central and the northwest. 1964-A few tornadoes touched down around the state. 1966-A tornado touched down in Grant County and there was 3 1/2 inch diameter hail in Sheridan. 1972-Highs were in the upper 80s to mid 90s through the 13th. Apr. 13 1957-All lows were at or below freezing. Lows were in the teens in most of the northwest, with 12 at Lead Hill. 1967-Tornadoes touched down at Crossett, Nashville, and Paragould. 1980-Two to four inches of snow fell in the north and west, mostly in the higher elevations. 1987-A tornado touched down at Lavaca. Severe thunderstorms moved across the north and west. 1991-A minor tornado touched down at El Dorado. There were heavy rains across the state. Apr. 14 1822-Little Rock had a freeze, with a low of 32. 1883-Tornadoes touched down in eastern Crawford County and at Conway. 1911-A tornado touched down from Plumerville to Wooster in Faulkner County with three dead, and from Vilonia to Beebe with one dead. 1927-A tornado touched down at Little Rock. The Kings River at Berryville crested at a record 38 feet. 1944-A tornado touched down at Oil Trough, killing one. 1960-Tornadoes touched down at Alma, Lamar, and in Montgomery County. 1980-A freeze occurred in most northern and central sections. 1996-A tornado struck Stone and Izard Counties, killing seven. Apr. 15 1849-A trace of snow fell in Little Rock. 1921-A tornado moved into southwest Arkansas from northeast Texas. The storm lifted in Mount Pisgah in Pike County. 51 people were killed in Arkansas. Also, tornadoes touched down at Gravelly and at Marche and Wrightsville in Pulaski County. 1961-Snow flurries fell in the northwest. 1998-Severe thunderstorms moved across northern Arkansas. Most damage was at Clinton and Shirley. 2012-A weak EF1 tornado touched down near Morgantown in VanBuren County.
