Tq. ‘Anniyan’ starring Vell Paari June 12, 2013 FMT LETTER: From Cakapcakap India, via e-mail Anniyan is a famous Tamil movie directed by S Shanker in 2005. The story revolves around a character called ‘Ambi’ played by Vikram. Ambi has multiple personality disorder. One minute he is a shy lawyer, next, a killer and wait, there is another next, yes a suave fashion model. So here we have a three in one hero. Now there seem to be a budding star in MIC, a three in one member, called Vell Paari. The son of the former MIC president S Samy Vellu used to play a supporting role in MIC until 2010. That year he was brought into MIC mainstream politics by his father. Yes, his father appointed him into the central working committee (CWC). Interestingly, Vell Paari was only appointed after he got rid of the biggest headache both the father and son created for themselves and the 66,400 Indians who trusted them with their money, to be exact, RM106 million. Vell Paari was the CEO (again appointed by his father) from 1999 until G Team Resource rescued it in 2010. The plundering of Maika, which indirectly sucked the Indians hard earned cash, would make an interesting blog by itself. So that is for another day. Lets get back to the Anniyan. He was a happy go lucky guy until his father stepped down reluctantly from the presidency of MIC. He was hogging the headlines for the wrong reasons, like an affair with a local actress and so forth. Now being the publicity and communication bureau chief of MIC, or is it MIC strategic director, whichever, is hogging the headlines again. REASONS, only known to him and his father S. Samy Vellu. February 2013, this appeared in Malaysian Insider (MI): “The son of MIC’s longest serving president, S Samy Vellu, sent shockwaves through the party last week when he penned a scathing open letter to Palanivel, demanding the latter pressure the Cabinet into taking action against Muslim academic Ridhuan Tee Abdullah and Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali.” And this is what he said if no action was taken against them. Again to quote MI: “Palanivel has agreed to bring the matter before the Cabinet. But should there be no response from Cabinet or his party leadership, Vell Paari repeated his threat to urge Indians here to vote for the opposition. “In the CWC, I am going to put forward what I think MIC should do. If they agree with me, fine. “But if they disagree, then I have to take on this agenda on my own. It is not about joining the opposition, though… I will never join the opposition because it would mean I am not genuine,” he said. Vell Paari pointed out that he could create his own platform to ensure his objectives are fulfilled – political or otherwise. He also acknowledged that he was taking a huge risk with his remarks, but said he was ready to leave the MIC or be sacked. June 10, 2013, this was the main caption to a story in Malaysiakini: ‘MIC not rich like MCA to reject posts’. This was Vell Paari’s tirade against the MIC president Palanivel for wanting to boycott all political post in Perak if the Perak assembly speakers post is not given to MIC. Vell Paari, a guy who was willing to ask the Indian community to vote for the opposition if the cabinet did not sanction two nincompoops for spewing filth from their mouth to the media, is now telling Indians should not live in Malaysia with pride because we are financially poor. He is saying we should gratefully kiss the hand or leg or ass of whoever throws a bone at us. He also said in the same article that the speaker’s position only benefits the person appointed as the speaker, and not the community. His father S Samy Vellu was a federal minister for 29 years. Now what did the Indian community gain? To say nothing is very mild because we have lost whatever we had, most importantly our pride. We were treated as equals during independence in 1957. The Indian community has slogged for the development of the country since 1900. We had our hands in all key development areas in the country. Rubber plantation, railways, telecommunication, roadwork, healthcare, we can just keep adding to this. Fifty-six years after independence what have we got to show for. Pendatang. Yes PENDATANG. Now and then some politician and some politically motivated individuals spew venom that Indians do not belong here. They are saying we are not part of the land our forefathers scrubbed with bare hands so it can grow beautiful tree to bear fruits for its citizens. In 2008, when the opposition won Perak, they appointed an Indian to the post of assembly speaker. In 2009 when BN toppled the Perak government, the post was given to an Indian who was not an elected representative. Be mindful that the Indians voted the opposition in 2008. Question: Why did BN appoint an Indian to post? Your answer is as good as mine. Question: Why are they reluctant to appoint an Indian as the assembly speaker when the Indians voted for BN in 2013? Your answer might be better than mine. Vell Paari has to make up his mind. He can’t say YES and then NO. He can’t be a bootlicker and at the same time claim he is a leader who preaches Indians to have pride. He has to get rid of his multiple personality disorder.
