THIS IS OUR MUSIC: Wall Of Voodoo – “Mexican Radio”. It’s a shame that Wall of Voodoo had a hit (albeit a minor one) with “Mexican Radio,” because although it’s an entertaining song, it forever enshrines the band in most folks’ memories as a novelty one-hit-wonder, a fate this always-intriguing band doesn’t deserve. On the other hand, it’s obvious why the song was an immediate success; it has the catchiest melody the group ever created, anchored by Chas T. Grey’s unforgettable Casio obbligatos and Marc Moreland’s dopily insistent guitar riff, which continues nonstop throughout the entire song. Stan Ridgway sings the impressionistic lyrics in his familiar adenoidal whine, accompanied by occasional interjections in Spanish, apparently recorded off a real Mexican radio station, sounding considerably more upbeat and relaxed than he does on the rest of this fairly bleak and oppressive-sounding album. .allmusic Follow – > songssmiths.wordpress/ Like -> facebook/songssmithssongssmiths
