THIS IS TODAY IN WOODBRIDGE: YOU SHOULD GO REALLY…… TONIGHT = wooden tops. RED SNAPPER, POLAR BEAR... The recently reformed The Woodentops were late 1980s Glastonbury headliners and were much loved by both John Peel and the first generation of Balearic / acid house DJs. The first band to cross over between dance and indie music, they prefigured bands such as Happy Mondays - with everyone from Paul Oakenfold to Ashley Beedle playing their records at early acid house parties. “Influences as diverse as Devo, Talking Heads and 1950s rockabilly … they are primarily a pure pop band… with definite psychedelic touches … well worth hearing.” (David Cleary, All Music) Mercury Prize nominated five piece Polar Bear are led by the multi-talented drummer, Seb Rochford. Critically acclaimed as one of the most gifted bands of any genre, they are outstanding musicians and create unique music. Seb is much in demand, adding his talents and sound to music by everyone from up-and-coming electronic acts to artists such as Pete Doherty, David Byrne, Brian Eno, Herbie Hancock, Bret Anderson, Adel and Paul McCartney. “Polar Bear are far more than just a jazz band.. all genre tags might as well be thrown into a blender. There are elements of electronica, shards of industrial… the odd hip hop beat, but really it’s a unique noise being brewed here.” (Time Jonze, The Guardian 2014)
