THIS SUNDAY IN BEDFORD: A.R. Gurney play “Love Letters” to be performed at Bedford Public Library The Bedford Public Library Foundation will hold its annual Fall Gala benefit at the Bedford Library on Sunday evening November 3 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm The evening begins with wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres, followed by an on-stage performance of A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters by New Boston actors Richard Backus and Samantha Gorton. Both Mr. Backus and Ms. Gorton have performed the play together. Mr. Backus is an experienced actor and screenwriter with experience on Broadway and on television. Love Letters chronicles a relationship between the staid, dutiful lawyer, Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, and the lively, unstable artist, Melissa Gardner. Their poignantly funny friendship and ill-fated romance is revealed through the dramatic reading of their letters starting in second grade, continuing through adolescence, then into maturity and middle age. Costs of the performance have been underwritten by the Bedford Branch of Bank of New Hampshire. Tickets for the event are $25 each, but are limited. While available, they can be purchased at the front desk of the Bedford Public Library.
