THIS is one of the reasons that I love my father and Latin culture so much! Here is a message I got from my dad this morning and how you feel about this doesnt matter to me because as a whole it is a true statement. This morning on the way to work, I decided that I wanted some Blue Moose coffee, so I had to go a different direction than normal. I didnt have to worry about driving too fast because I was lucky enough to get right behind a bus picking up school kids. I was in no hurry, sipping my coffee, jamming to the radio, I began to notice a trend. At every bus stop, if there were Latino kids, no matter their ages, there was parents standing at the bus stop with them. The children would all be neatly dressed standing waiting patiently with some of the littler ones even holding hands. In some cases you would see the parent actually walk them on the bus and help get them seated. I saw this happen 3 times. I never saw a white or black parent at any of the stops. At one stop a little blonde girl who looked about 13, made up for either a beauty pageant or a stripper pole actually threw down her cigarette to get on the bus. I was right behind the bus and could see through the glass of the back door. There were white and black kids bouncing from seat to seat, you could see stuff flying through the air and you could see the bus driver yelling up into the mirror that looks over the bus. Then when you look down at the seats you could see probably 8 rows of the Latino children sitting quietly in the middle of the chaos. I dont know but it seems to me like that is a part of the problem with our society. Most of the folks born here arent hungry enough. Not for food, but to make their own way. In looking at those Latino children acting as if they appreciated the opportunity of bettering their situation and then seeing the actions of the offspring of the natural born citizens, it just made me think that the only way that the US will ever maintain its dominance in the world is on the backs of the hungry people. That is just my early morning caffeinated school bus opinionated philosophy.
