THIS thread (not the history one - totally open discussion there) is a remembrance thread of what we all remember as an absolutely horrific day. I was at work and on break getting coffee when someone came in and said a plane had just hit the WTC. I thought man, thats terrible - but my mind had a picture of a little plane (whatever theyre called, those little 3-4 passenger jobs) hitting it and maybe doing a little damage while hoping (though the occupants probably wouldnt fare well) that it didnt bust through onto others. We turned on the television and it didnt take long to see my mind had painted a very wrong picture. Not long after, we were listening to commentary and watched as the other tower was hit by a passenger airplane as well. Before they even said it, me and my friend both knew this was an attack. Our world stopped that day as the Pentagon was hit and the heroes of Flight 93 prevented the animals from another strike. As we watched, people began jumping from the towers. I was dumbstruck, though not screaming stop jumping at the television in judging manner but simply out of a desire for the preservation of life. I cant imagine how horrible the scene must have been inside and how unbearable the heat and smoke to drive them through the window. None of us expected either tower to fall, much less both. The entire WORLD changed that day as we found ourselves coming to terms with having to look at it differently. So many went to work expecting standard fare and instead found themselves victims of the unthinkable. Remember them today. Remember their families, their friends, those with babies and toddlers (or even unborn) at the time who never got to know them and small children unable to understand. Remember the heroes - human and animal (service dogs, for example) - who showed the most admirable characteristics of what it means to be selfless and compassionate, to sacrifice their own lives in hopes of saving others. Remember how you felt that day and hug those close to you. Just remember. Leaving politics completely aside on this thread in preference of memorializing, feel free to share your emotional roller coaster that day and your own words of remembrance.
