THOUGHTS FROM BOUGAINVILLEA COTTAGE: Who among you has ever experienced an AHA! Moment? You say, “What is that?” I read an article in Scientific American a few years ago that stated that many great inventions or great milestone discoveries in science and technology happen when some scientist or inventor is resting or her/his mind is otherwise occupied in some leisure activity. Well, since that time I’ve been waiting for my own Aha Moment (I’ve let my mind rest for hours on end), but nothing! But I have had “I Should Have Said!” moments!” I’m sure you have too. Someone makes a statement that you don’t necessarily agree with, and you just can’t formulate an appropriate response off the cuff. But give you a few minutes to think about it, and you think, “Well! I should have said….!” Just such an example in my own life came to mind this morning as I was thinking about Jim and how we used to enjoy eating out frequently. We were sitting in one of our favorite restaurants, The Athenian, in North Fort Myers. It was in the midst of season, and there were snowbirds* all around us. Two snowbird couples were sitting at an adjoining table discussing the fun time they had that day at the Casino in Immokalee. We had exchanged pleasantries before; so, one of the ladies leaned over and asked if we ever went to the casinos. I said, “No, I really don’t gamble.” She quickly replied, “Well, life’s a gamble.” I didn’t have a ready response. We finished dinner, paid our check and left. We were no more than in the car when I started frantically searching in the glove compartment. Jim said, “What in the world are you doing?” I said, “I just had an “I Should Have Said” moment, and I need to write it down quickly. I think it would make a good song.” I don’t know about you, but I’m betting on a sure thing. My faith is steadfast in Jesus who has promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He says that he will be with until the end of the age. Do you agree with the words I jotted down? I’M BETTIN’ ON A SURE THING VERSE 1 Some folks said to me, Life with Jesus is better’s just a gamble! You only roll the dice but never know if you will win or lose.” But I can tell you of one certainty, Its Jesus Christ the Lord; And you can know Him too if you will only choose! CHORUS I’m bettin’ on a sure thing! I’m trusting Jesus Christ the Lord! His steady hand will guide me safely ‘til I rest on Heaven’s shore. So, put your hand in the hand of the One who calms life’s troubled, stormy seas. You too can know Him and His peace forevermore! VERSE 2 Earth’s beauty fades! The things we treasure lose their value. The love of God abides forever, changeless, true! The God who flung the stars in space is watching o’er you. He cares for sparrows; how much more he cares for you! CHORUS I’m bettin’ on a sure thing! I’m trusting Jesus Christ the Lord! His steady hand will guide me safely ‘til I rest on Heaven’s shore. So, put your hand in the hand of the One who calms life’s troubled, stormy seas.
