THOUGHTS FROM THE MIDDLE BOOTH--TEMPERATURE vs. HEAT: Temperature is not heat. Temperature is how hot (or less hot, i.e., cold) something is. Heat is not temperature, heat is energy and energy is defined basically as the ability to do work. In many cases, that work is harmful, such as sunburn, fire damage, heat exhaustion, etc. It takes energy to make rooms hotter or cooler than the ambient temperature. That energy used may be in the form or a fire or electricity for an electric heater; or in the form of electricity that runs an air conditioner or refrigerator. We teach courses in hazmat simply on how energy kills.
