THREE KINDS OF PEOPLE / LOOK FOR THE COMMITTED - If you fall, not everybody will be generous enough in spirit to rejoice when you get back up. The elder brother wasn’t to happy when the Prodigal Son came back home, and there are still lots of elder brothers around. Basically, there are three kinds of people: 1) THE USERS -These people will reach for your strengths, but carefully avoid your weaknesses. When trouble hits your life, they’ll distance themselves lest they become tainted by your perceived liabilities. Do not be resentful towards them; users are not bad, they are just insecure and self serving. 2) THE CAUTIOUS ; these folks are in the majority. When you are in trouble, they’ll wait to see if you get out of it, and even then, they’ll keep their options open. Before they accept you, they’ll first check to see who else does. Paul says, “Know them which labour among you” (1 Thess. 5:12). When it comes to the cautious, love them but do not build your life on them. 3. THE COMMITTED -These are the people Solomon talks about in Proverbs 17:17. “A friend loveth at all times and a brother is born for adversity.” There’s an old adage that says. ‘In the good times, our friends know us, in the bad times, we know our friends.’ If you have even a handful of committed friends, you are truly blessed, for they’ll stand by you at all times. They are not just strong in faith, they are strong in fight. They are born for adversity. Protect these relationships; nurture them, for without them, you cannot reach your God given destiny.
