THREE MESSAGES - 3 Father in heaven, thank you for providing the solution to the sin problem! It cost you more than we can know! Such amazing love! As we open up your Word we ask that your Holy Spirit be our teacher, in Jesus name, amen. Revelation 14:9-12, And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10)The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11)And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. 12)Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the Commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Again the message is portrayed as being given by an angel: this time the purpose seems to be to indicate the importance of the message. This is a matter of life and death! This is tied to the previous message: the worship of false gods as represented by Babylon. I acknowledge that you can get the impression that these people who are subjected to the fire and brimstone actually suffer for eternity. But when we get the full context of the Bible, it becomes clear that this is symbolic language, and is not to be taken literally. That is another study. Those who received the mark of the beast, will have received it because they chose to accept another as god, instead of the Creator God. It becomes clear that our safeguard against this is to die to self and let Jesus live in our hearts. Let his mind control our actions, bringing us into perfect obedience to his law. This passage provides a look at the final resolution to the sin problem: those who refuse to be separated from their sins will be destroyed, and those who accept deliverance from sin, witness the conclusion of judgement and know sin and sinners will be no more.
