THREE NYANZA MPS DECRY INSECURITY By Zachary Three members of Parliament from Nyanza region have called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Kimaiyo to reshuffle all the top police officers serving in the region. Led by Gem Member of Parliament, Jakoyo Midiwo, the leaders alleged that top police officers posted in the area have become increasingly partisan. Speaking shortly after Nyakach MP, Aduma Owuor was charged in a Kisumu court for tampering with a body of a dead person by dumping it outside the office of the Nyanza regional Commissioners’ office, the MPs faulted the police for failing to tame increasing cases of insecurity in Kisumu town and the outlying areas. The Gem, Nyakach and Kisumu East Constituency MP Shakeel Shabir claimed that most of the crime in Kisumu town and other areas in the county were being instigated by police officers who are not ready to protect the residents. Midiwo criticized the police for allegedly assaulting the driver of the Nyakach MP before trumping up charges against him. Jakoyo also displayed to the media photos of police officers allegedly torturing the driver with the police land cruiser present at the scene and said the matter will be taken to human rights for redress. Owuor insisted that some senior officers could be involved in the crime incidents in Kisumu. “Regional coordinator, Francis Mutie told me that there are some police officers who have been posted in the region but are not answerable to him,” Aduma disclosed. He said there are some rogue officers whom he wants to be relieved of their duties for incompetence. Kisumu East MP, Shakeel Shabir recalled the case where a Norwegian missionary was strangled at Milimani estate by suspected robbers a week ago pointing out one of the robbers killed by the police was an administration police officer, while his colleague managed to escape in a waiting car and is still at large.
