THURSDAY, 10/30/14 LETTERS. Romans 15:1-4. “It’s Not Always About Me!” (By Barry) WORSHIP: https://youtube/watch?v=s3P2yxXs3No SCRIPTURE: blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Rom&c=15&t=NLT “We must not just please ourselves.” What if we took those words seriously? In the past few weeks, we have been talking about how silly it is to argue over small things, and how we should consider the views of others. Paul takes that a step farther in today’s reading with some strong words: 1 We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not just please ourselves. 2 We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. 3 For even Christ didn’t live to please himself. As the Scriptures say, “The insults of those who insult you, O God, have fallen on me.” 4 Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled. THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS: —1. The truth is, we are surrounded by people who are different than us, who think differently than we do, and who, in some cases, may be weaker than we are. —2. Paul gives us a worthwhile goal to pursue: “Help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.” —3. So, who are you intentionally helping to do what is right today? —4. What’s the name (or names) of the person(s) who you are building up? (Can you think of someone in the past 24 hours that you have torn down?) —5. What kinds of things could you do differently today and tomorrow to focus on others around you? —6. You will be exactly where you are supposed to be today. There will be people in those places that you were sent (by God!) to impact. Take your role seriously! —7. Our passage today tells us that Jesus didn’t live to please Himself. He had a greater purpose. Do you? PRAYER: Adore. Confess. Thank. Seek. (Make it count today!)
