THURSDAY 10 JULY RELEASE: IMMEDIATE Free public transport for the over 60’s must be protected – Hussey Ross Hussey MLA has backed Transport Minister Danny Kennedy’s call for free public transport for the over 60’s to be protected. Mr Hussey said: “I fully support my Party colleague and Transport Minister Danny Kennedy’s call for the concessionary travel scheme to be protected. “The current threat to the concessionary travel scheme should be of deep concern to all of us. The free public transport pass for over 60’s assists many older people in Northern Ireland in maintaining their independence and remaining active members of society. “As a huge supporter of this scheme I am backing Danny in his fight to see this scheme protected. I am calling on the Executive to ensure that free public transport for the over 60’s is allowed to continue. “This scheme must be protected as it would have a devastating effect on many older people in our society - the people we should be doing everything in our power to support.’
