THURSDAY 13 MARCH 2.30PM THE BUTLER 12A The film tells the story of Cecil Gaines’ (Forest Whitaker) 34-year career working as head butler at the White House. Beginning his tenure under President Eisenhower (Robin Williams), Cecil would see another seven presidents come and go throughout his career and was present at the highest level of the state during some of the most tumultuous periods in the 20th century including the American Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War. The ensemble cast includes John Cusack, James Marsden, Liev Schreiber, Alan Rickman and Oprah Winfrey. THURSDAY 20 MARCH 2.30PM THE HUNGER GAMES – CATCHING FIRE 12 In this second movie from the acclaimed trilogy, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem. Then she met Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan), a world-weary political journalist who happened to be intrigued by her story. Together they set off to America on a journey that would not only reveal the extraordinary story of Philomenas son, but also create an unexpectedly close bond between Philomena and Martin. The film is a compelling narrative of human love and loss that ultimately celebrates life, showing that there is laughter even in the darkest places. THURSDAY 3 APRIL 2.30PM SAVING MR BANKS 12 Oscar winner Emma Thompson and fellow Oscar winner Tom Hanks star in this movie, inspired by the extraordinary untold tale of how one of the most beloved stories of all time, Mary Poppins, was brought to the big screen. The film is a poignant, sharply funny and moving recounting of Walt Disneys quest to fulfil a promise to his daughters to make a film of their favourite book, and of its fiercely protective author PL Travers, who had no intention of letting her beloved nanny go to Hollywood. The film follows Walt as he has to pull out all the stops to change PL Travers’ mind and is ultimately forced to reach back into his own childhood to discover the truth about the ghosts that haunt her. Together they set Mary Poppins free to become one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.
