THURSDAY, January 23 John 4:13-14. Those who drink of the water - TopicsExpress

THURSDAY, January 23 John 4:13-14. Those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. Inside the entrance of our dormitory in The Gambia, West Africa, was a sign, “Keep Your Buckets Full.” Each room had a bucket for holding water to use when the pressure got too low to pump in fresh water. Without filling your bucket, you’d have no water to fill your needs until pressure built up again. Our lives, like those buckets, get empty, and often what we attempt to fill them with—food, drink, or some other pleasure—quenches our desires or meets our needs only temporarily. Soon we find ourselves and our supply exhausted, and we go looking for more. When the woman at the well asked Jesus to give her water that would keep her from thirsting and having to draw more, she wanted Jesus to fill a need within her that she could not otherwise quench, so she wouldn’t have to keep searching, keep coming back, keep doing the same ol’, same ol’ again and again. She came to the well to fill her bucket with water that would need to be replenished. Jesus offered her water that would never need replenishing—the gift of his spirit. Nothing else could fill her deepest need, nor ours. Nothing else can keep our buckets full. PRAY for the Diocese of Albany (Province II, The Episcopal Church) From ForwardMovement.org
