THURSDAY, July 4: A classic car cruise will gather at 8:30 a.m. at Fairhaven High School for the raising of the "Big Flag." At 9:00 the cruise will depart and will travel the streets of Fairhaven, eventually heading south on Green Street past Cushman Park to Fort Phoenix. The Fairhaven Fourth of July Costume Parade will gather at the Green Street side of Cushman Park between 9:00 and 9:20 a.m. Anyone in historical costume, patriotic dress or uniform may take part in the parade. Decorated carriages, strollers, wagons, etc. are welcome. At 9:30 the parade steps off after the Car Cruise has passed. The parade will travel south on Green Street to Fort Phoenix. At Fort Phoenix, once the parade participants have gathered (approx. 10:15 a.m.), there will be an Independence Day ceremony featuring a brief historical talk, musical performances by the Showstoppers, the reading of the Declaration of Independence by Selectman Charles Murphy, and the raising of the flag with the signing of the National Anthem. The members of the Fairhaven Village Militia will then fire the forts five large cannons.
