THe first picture i got offline, but the following images are scans of one of the programs I kept from that day and night in 1983 at the Academy, when I met and hung out with Spike Lee and his dad, in LA for the first time to attend this gala and to pick up his award, and network. This is the first time i encountered Spike Lee, only time I had the pleasure to meet his dad, and they were quite nice gentleman.There was only 4 black men in attendance that day, I was there with my friend Toks from La Verne, and my friend Elvira and her sister were there with us...so we gravitated to each other, and spoke at length about Los Angeles, film school, and the future...they were great guys, we exchanged info., and sat by each other during the event. ..that was 1983, my second encounter with Spike Lee, by himself, was in 1989, in the VIP section of a club at a fundraiser, my date was a model, and was there for the event as an invited guest, she brought me.I also knew Pat Tobin well, she was always supportive of a brother, and I know she worked with him... He was a star by that time,and ..well,I tend to like to introduce myself to those around me at a table at an event, seems like the thing to do, but we got more Mars Blackmon than the eager polite affable young film maker i met that day.He blew me off and said he did not remember me, because that was a long time ago..which was okay and all, but he was hell of rude, we were all there together. Everybody has a bad day, cant say I hold it against the brother to much..but I just have a great memory and it was just interesting how different 6 years makes a person. Anyhow, looks like I kept the program from that event at the Student academys, and finding them brought back this little Hollywood memory....fun times.
