TIGERS CELEBRATE HOMECOMING WITH 41-20 WIN In 1923 the Logansport Tigers fielded their first football team. In 2013, celebrating the 90th year of Tiger football, the team earned their first victory of the season with a 41-20 win over Ringgold. The win improves the Tiger’s record to 1-4 on the season. This week the Tigers open district play as they travel to LaSalle. Logansport took the opening kickoff and started their first drive on their own 41 yards line. Running a no huddle offense the Tigers scored on an 11 yard run by Logan Spears with 10:14 left in the quarter. The drive covered 59 yards in only 4 plays. After Ringgold lost the ball on downs, the Tigers took over on their own 18 yard line. After 4 plays the Tigers scored on a 2 yard run by Spears with 5:17 left in the opening quarter the score was 12-0. With 3:12 left in the quarter Ringgold got on the board with a 53 yard run to cut the lead to 12-6. At 11:51 in the second quarter, Ringgold tied the score at 12 with a 22 yard run. On the ensuing possession, Jailynn Gant scored on a 31 yard run with 11:35 left in the half. DeRoderick Johnson added the 2 point conversion for a 20-12 lead. With 1:21 left in the half, Johnson scored on a 4 yard run then added the conversion for a 28-12 halftime lead. Tanner McDonald hauled in a 19 yard touchdown pass from Spears with 2:08 left in the third quarter for a 34-12. The Tigers final touchdown came on a 14 yard run by Gant with 11:10 left in the game. NaKendrick Peterson kicked the extra point for the Tigers final points and a 4112 lead. Ringgold scored on a 25 yard pass with 7:07 left in the game. In the final minutes the Tigers drove to the Ringgold 5 yard line before kneeling on the ball and attempting a field goal on fourth down. The Tiger defense recorded 3 quarterback sack. Xavier Robertson, Tremaine Fletcher, and Nathaniel Chardonnay each recorded 1 sack. Chardonnay also recovered to Ringgold fumbles. Offensively, Gant rushed for 137 yards on 13 carries. Johnson added 104 yards on 11 carries, Spears had 42 yards on 7 carries. Spears completed 12 passes out of 21 attempts for 154 yards. McDonald was the leading receiver with 5 catches for 60 yards. Johnson had 3 catches for 35 yards, James Pitts had 2 catches for 47 yards, and Jonathan Creech had 2 catches for 32 yards.
