TIME-LAPSE OF GLOBAL EARTHQUAKES 2014 Earthquakes happen every day, most are too small for us to actually feel. The moderate-to-large earthquakes however are less common. This global earthquake animation shows all earthquakes on earth so far this year in sequence. Note the unusual level of activity through April that kept the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre on its toes with a record number of 13 official messages issued for earthquakes of magnitudes 6.5 or higher. April began with the 8.2 magnitude earthquake in northern Chile and the rest of the month saw 12 more moderate-to-large earthquakes mostly in Chile and the Solomon Islands but also in Nicaragua, Mexico, Canada, and even the South Atlantic Ocean. So what does this all mean? Although this frequency of moderate-to-large earthquakes is unusual, it reminds us how important it is to be prepared.
