TIMING Start Time: 1pm Today End Time: Midnight Tuesday BLIZZARD WARNING 1PM THROUGH TUESDAY MIDNIGHT FORECAST Long Island Snow Forecast: 1-2 ft New Jersey & Hudson Valley Snow Forecast: 1-2 ft / up to 1 ft south & west Heaviest: Overnight Monday into Tuesday AM Wind Forecast: Gusts 50-60 eastern LI and NJ shore (late tonight and Tuesday AM) COASTAL FLOODING A coastal flood watch is in effect on Long Island and HV sound shore during the Tuesday morning high tide cycles. A coastal flood warning is in effect on the NJ shore during the Tuesday morning high tide cycles. Moderate flooding of shore roads and vulnerable water front property is possible. STORM DESCRIPTION A major Noreaster will develop along our coastline this morning and begin to impact the region by this afternoon. Snow should begin on the lighter side, but quickly become very heavy by Monday evening and Monday night. The heaviest snow and strongest winds are likely to occur during the overnight hours into early Tuesday morning. Blizzard conditions are expected on Long Island, NJ and the Hudson Valley. BLIZZARD DEFINITION A blizzard is a severe snowstorm characterized by strong sustained winds of at least 35 MPH and lasting for a prolonged period of time – typically three hours or more. STORM IMPACTS Extremely dangerous travel due to heavy snowfall late Today and early Tuesday, strong winds, and white out conditions. Roads may become impassable in spots. Power outages and downed tree limbs are likely.
