TINA’S JOURNEY April 19th, 2014 @ 3:00pm Held at Bean City Bar & Grill Tina Swinford mother of four and grandmother of 4 was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer in July of 2013 and since has experienced a very quick and progressive struggle. Chemotherapy was started soonafter in September 2013 as the cancer was rapidly becoming worse and she was given a 97% survival rate if she chose the treatments over the surgery to receive a Colostomy bag. No longer than two months later, in late November, Tina had confidentally made the decision to stop receiving chemo treatments because she was in so much pain and wished to have the surgery in hopes that having the infected areas removed would relieve her into a faster recovery! December 9th doctors perfromed surgery to remove not only her bladder to be replaced by a colostomy bag, but also her uterus, part of cervix, appendix, and a spot on a lymph node that was found during surgery. Once Tina was home she was experiencing extreme pain and went into New London E.R to have a CT scan performed to check the stents in her kidneys from surgery. Later on that week she had met with her cancer Doctor to find out there were spots found in her liver from the CT scan that was performed earlier that week. They then met to discuss her options and she chose to fight for her family and do more chemo, she was bound and determained to kick cancers butt. The chemo had really started taking a toll on Tina’s body and was making her lose weight she really couldn’t afford to lose. On March 12, 2014 Tina had a CT scan to see if chemo was making any progress, March 13, 2014 Tina and Chad went to see Doctor Phillips and they were told she was given months to live which we believe to be sooner.
