TIP FOR THE DAY: When learning to ride or do something different - TopicsExpress

TIP FOR THE DAY: When learning to ride or do something different remember that it takes muscle memory and it takes time to build that muscle memory. The reason that I do clinics is to give my participants the hours that it takes to give them the opportunity to develop the memory. In my clinics I give exercises that take a certain amount of time before your brain can teach your hands or seat how to effectively communicate to that horse... knowing it in our heads is different than knowing it in our body. And sometimes it just helps for someone to be telling you when you are off because our brain is doing something different than our body. Here in this picture I helped Christine Bush Schelin figure out how her body was different than what she thought she was doing. I put her on my horse that I really know well and then I sat holding her legs with my legs where she should be and put my hands on her body and put them into place. She then got to feel where her body should go and then let that feeling attach to her brain because she knew what she should be doing but her body wasnt doing it. We also stayed in that position as we loped so she could gain the muscle memory. Sometimes you are too hard on yourself and the horse and you have to remember that this is a sport and takes time to get the whole picture! Christine is a great rider and now can ride with confidence that she is sending good signals! Now relax and enjoy the journey of becoming a great horseman/woman!
