TIP OF THE DAY: In tapering for a race, you should cut back on all activities, not just mileage, but strength training and stretching too. Avoiding the heaviest weights makes sense in the final weeks of training. And if you have been stretching as part of your regular workouts, dont overstretch. Stretching should always be gentle, stopping well below the pain point. Everything done in the final weeks of tapering—particularly before a marathon—should be at a lower level of stress.
