TIP OF THE DAY: One workout I often recommend for more experienced runners is the 3/1 run. In a 3/1, you do the first 3/4 of a long run at a relaxed pace, then pick up that pace over the last 1/4 of the distance. It is always exciting to finish workouts and races at an up tempo, passing people who went out too fast and died. But dont play this pace card too often. You do not need to finish each workout stretched to the edge of your ability. Even for experienced runners, I recommend that they do 3/1 (long) runs only once every three weeks.
