TMC to launch bus service in Mirik; ration offering rejected MIRIK, 26 Aug 2013: Reports about the state government’s plan to start a state-government bus service for Mirik residents have come up. On being asked about this, Hill TMC convener Rajen Mukhia said his unit has been in constant contact with North Bengal Development minister Gautam Deb on the issue of launching a government bus service in the Mirik route. He claimed the demand for a bus service is being raised by the public and it would be fulfilled soon. In the meantime, the state government’s programme of distributing rations in the Hills continued today in Mirik. However, the people refused to accept the offerings being distributed at police outposts. Not a single person came to take away the rations in Soureni and Mirik, it has been reported although some Panighatta residents were seen receiving the rations being offered at cheap prices. Sources informed rice was distributed at Rs7 per kg and atta at Rs6.75 per kg. Panighatta residents had collected the rations on previous occasions too. (EOIC)
