TO ALL USFJ PERSONNEL: Last weekend during Typhoon Phanfone, we suffered a terrible tragedy with the loss of three Service Members in Okinawa. Japans location makes all of us susceptible to dangerous natural disasters. We have plans in place to prepare for and respond to these events and I ask everyone to pay close attention to Typhoon Vongfong. Ensure you actively use and execute these procedures along with risk management techniques to ensure the safety of our personnel and the protection of facilities and equipment. Please, do not underestimate the power of a typhoon and its associated hazards such as: strong winds, heavy rainfall, and damaging high sea states. Your nation, your service and your family cannot afford the loss of anyone to a preventable mishap. Our people are what make us the greatest fighting force this world has ever seen.
