TO THE DEEPER PLACE And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. - Matthew 8:24 The normal way of life of every Christian is that we commit everything we do into the Hands of God; education, career, relationships, marriage, finance, raising of children, to mention a few. That notwithstanding, there are points in our lives when in any of these spheres of life, a storm hits us out of nowhere. Then we start asking questions, God where are You, I committed this thing to You and I have done no wrong so what is happening? What makes it most frustrating is that it is during such times that were calling on God that He seems silent. The disciples in this Scripture had a similar experience. They were on a voyage and they had Jesus right there in their boat, yet a storm still hit them. I have come to learn that one thing that normally brings about this circumstance is when God wants to bring us into a deeper place of fellowship with Him, a place where we totally depend on Him. You see, these men were used to the sea so they were accustomed to storms. What they did then was to rely on their experience and knowledge until they realised they couldnt handle this storm by themselves and that is when they called on Jesus. Like these men, most of us come to a place where we feel comfortable, knowledgeable and experienced that we take the presence of God in our lives for granted. God therefore allows such storms to shake us up and bring us to the realisation that no matter where we are, who we are or what we have, we still need Him. We need to at all times recognise Him as God and honour Him as such. I can tell you that I know God better, honour Him better and serve His people better because of similar storms. Not all storms are evil so if you are going through a storm right now, just ask Jesus, Lord how deep are you bringing me this time? PRAYER: Oh Lord, may I know You and Your will better in this storm!
