TODAY @3pm! The Louisville Metro Council to present signed Voting Rights Resolution to Jefferson County Legislative Delegation Presentation set for Thursday, August 7th Louisville – Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13), Majority Leader of the Louisville Metro Council and Chair of the Democratic Caucus, will present a signed copy of a Metro Council resolution calling for a statewide vote to amend Kentucky’s Constitution and restore voting rights to felons who have served their time. The resolution was passed unanimously by the Metro Council on July 24th and signed by Mayor Greg Fischer earlier this week. Councilwoman Attica Scott (D-1) as primary sponsor of the resolution will give a brief history of how this effort began culminating with the Metro Council’s final vote. Councilwoman Welch will present the signed copy of the resolution to Representative Darryl Owens, Chair of the Jefferson Co. Delegation, as a way of encouraging lawmakers in Frankfort to move forward with a constitutional amendment in the 2015 session of the Kentucky General Assembly. Other Council members and members of the Jefferson County Legislative Delegation will be on hand along with Kentucky Jobs with Justice and other groups in support of restoring voting rights. The presentation will take place at 3:00pm in the First Floor Conference Room of Historic City Hall, 601 West Jefferson Street.
