TODAY IN THE PAST: JULY 20, 1859 LONDON: The Clock Tower at the Palace of Westminster is completed. Though it is commonly known as Big Ben, certain know-it-alls (like the Internet) will tell you that Big Ben actually refers to the bell in the clock. The Internet is wrong. The name is that of the hunchback who originally /rang/ the bell. Despite the nickname, he was actually normal size for a hunchback. Now, of course, there arent many hunchbacks in the bell-ringing business, and the hunch that is worn by the current bell-ringer is purely ceremonial. —More Information Than You Require (2008) \|/ Reposted by: -H- Team /|\ Hodgmania
