TODAY! On the eve of Earth Day celebrations, Nevadans demand answers and accountability from the Nevada Mining Association. The transnational gold mining corporations NMA represents are the biggest polluters in the state of Nevada. RENO, NV -- On the eve of Earth Day celebrations, Nevadans will meet outside of the Nevada Mining Association headquarters in Reno to deliver a letter demanding answers and accountability for the environmental damage caused by the mining corporations NMA represents. The Nevada Mining Association wants Nevadans to believe that their environmental destruction is not so bad, even sending a tweet that said Conservation measures demonstrate wildlife can co-exist & often even flourish in & around mine sites. Some of the toxins found in and around hard rock mine sites in Nevada include mercury, sulfuric acid, ammonia and cyanide. Our four questions for the Nevada Mining Association: 1. How does gold mining account for its profound and irreparable impacts on Great Basin Indigenous people, and their spiritual and cultural activities? 2. How does modern gold mining account for its pollution of Nevada’s scarce water? 3. How does modern gold mining account for its harmful impacts on Nevada wildlife? 4. Why doesn’t NMA police its own industry?
