Some people! So I was walking down to the deli and listening to my Ipod. On the way some guy asks me how Im going and I say Alright and I continue on my way clearly not interested in a conversation but unlike most rude strangers he persists with Are you ok? and I have to again say fine and he finally gets the hint and moves on. Then I get to the deli and get my 2 litre bottle of coke and give the cashier my money. She asks If I turn my ipod off when I come into the store. I say no but I can still hear people. Then she continues to be rude by saying that she should charge me 10c for a second bag because they do in other states. I didnt say anything in response but I was quite annoyed and went over what I wanted to say after I left. I should have told her that I wear headphones to indicate that Im not interested in having small talk with every random person I walk past and every cashier I make an uncomplicated 2 litre coke purchase from. This does not make me rude it makes the people who insist on small talk like its their god given right with people who dont want it rude. Secondly I am a frequent customer there and buy a 2 litre bottle of vanilla coke nearly every day. Im guessing Im almost single handedly the reason they even stock the stuff. So what I should have done was ask her if she would like me to tell her manager that she was being needlessly rude to a valued customer. Also its not my problem that their flimsy plastic bags are not strong enough to carry 2 litres of liquid and if shes a tree hugger, thats her problem and maybe she should quit and go work for a deli that makes recycled bags compulsory. Maybe she thought I was being rude for simply wanting to go about my purchase in silence and haste and thought she is owed a please or thank you for her service. Well... Im unemployed you self-righteous... person. You are very fortunate to be getting paid to do what you do and your customers do not owe you anything for earning your living. I will say please and thank you when someone is doing me a favour, not when someone is earning money serving me and I wish I had their job.
